Too Busy To Take Care Of Yourself?

Hey gorgeous!

Are you the “busy” kind of person? Who’s never bored? Who’s always moving, always something?

I sure am.

And while I was digging through 539 pages of administration law, my eyes burning as if I put on Jalapeno-mascara and my ass numb from being glued to the chair all day (yeah, I know… I’ll be done talking about that stupid exam soon!) it hit me:

Take a damn break. A real break.

I was tired, my entire body was begging for rest and I obviously couldn’t focus. Still I tried to push myself further, to not let “excuses” fool me. But I was just making things worse.

Ever been there?

It’s a trap!

And you, my friend? Need to take a break! Recharge.

Now I know you’re gonna be all like “I know this, thanks!” – but I wanna encourage you to do something about it today.

I want you to allow yourself to take a real break. Not just a 20-minute lunch break, in which you make 4 phone calls and pick up the dry cleaning. Not “relaxing” in the park, but secretly reading emails on your smart(ass)-phone all the time.

Take a real break today. Schedule at least 3 hours for yourself and do ONLY what you feel like doing.

Wanna stay in bed all day, watch the entire season 8 of Friends, even though you’ve seen it like 28 times already?

Wanna turn your home into a spa, grab your favorite book and occupy the tub for the next couple hours?

Wanna spend the day outside with your loved ones, feel the sunshine on your skin and just get some fresh air? (I hope you live in a sunny country then… good luck with the sunshine to my fellow Europeans.)

Just go for it.

And don’t feel bad about it. Or guilty. (That’s always my issue…)

Grant yourself permission to truly recharge!

You see… nothing works unless you work. But also: in order for you to work you need to recharge. Simple as that.

The beauty of it?

When you allow yourself to do only things you WANT to do – and even if it’s just for a couple hours – inspiration will come. Your brain is gonna shoot out ideas like an M16. Excitement kicks in and the Olympic fire under your butt is on!

You’re gonna wanna get back to work as soon as your battery is full again.

How long does your break need to be? Totally depends on how low your battery is! Maybe you just need to take a walk for half an hour or maybe you need to leave the continent for at least 2 weeks to come back recharged and full of energy. It all depends on you and your specific situation. The bottom-line is:

Your body tells you exactly what you need.

All you have to do now? Obey.

I’d love to hear from you in the comments:

What is your favorite way of taking care of yourself when you’re super busy?

How can you recharge?

I am recharging with the fab english tv-series the it crowd. all episodes are so familiar to me, it feels like being part of the team. it is fun, it is absurd, it is just a perfect tool for escaping reality!

Love it, Gabi! I did get sucked into Breaking Bad eventually lol, so I’m watching that right now. Music does the same for me by the way ;)

Thank you for the reminder! It’s silly because it doesn’t take me long to recharge and I always wonder what my productivity problem is.. And it’s simple. I haven’t taken a break. Just sleeping in an extra 20 min.. A 20 min soak in the tub, a cup of coffee outdoors in the morning. I could afford to recharge daily and don’t do it! But it’s on my calendar now! Thank you Hannah :)

You are very welcome Teri! I totally know what you feel like! I didn’t listen to my body and now I have a horrible cold… so better obey in the first place ;)
